Del Webb to receive Lieder award

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

The Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will present the Lieder award tonight to Del Webb during a reception and dinner at the MGM Grand. The award is presented annually to an organization or individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership and vision in the Southern Nevada real estate industry.

Chris Haines, president of Del Webb, will accept the award.

"Our entire company is proud to receive this award, especially in light of the fact that there are so many great real estate developers in Las Vegas," Haines said. "Del Webb's vision for Southern Nevada began with his first project in 1934, and the foundation he set has allowed our company to achieve success here for over 60 years."

The company's contribution to Southern Nevada has been significant. Del Webb built the Flamingo Hotel in 1946 and developed Sun City Summerlin, the first Sun City in Southern Nevada, in 1988.

The company has since continued to define the active-adult lifestyle with its Sun City MacDonald Ranch, Sun City Anthem and Sun City Aliante communities. Other residential projects include Anthem Country Club and Solera at Anthem, both of which are located within the Anthem master-planned in Henderson.

Debra March, executive director of the Lied Institute, called Del Webb a "leader in residential development."

"The company has been a key player in ensuring the quality of the product being built in Southern Nevada. This award is one way to recognize this outstanding home builder for its contributions to our state."

Del Webb merged with Pulte Homes in 2001 to create the nation's largest builder of conventional housing and the age-qualified lifestyle.

The Lied Institute supports courses in the university's business college that lead to degrees in real estate. It also offers scholarships, internships and continuing education courses, as well as the Commercial Real Estate Certification and Certified Graduate Builder programs.
