Resident at Picerne's The Summit wins cruise

Domenick Turco had forgotten all about the contest he entered when he signed a one-year lease at The Equestrian, an apartment complex by Picerne Management Co.
The resident of the Henderson development recently won a cruise, compliments of the management company.
The cruise was part of a "Carnival of Dreams" promotion. Residents signing a lease or referring a new resident on or before April 30 were eligible to win one of nine Carnival Cruise vacations or a cash prize of $10,000.
"I've been on a day cruise before, but nothing like this," Turco said of the vacation. "It was a pleasant surprise." His name will go back in the bin, meaning he is still eligible for the $10,000 prize, which will be drawn during a resident picnic Saturday at Sunset Park. The winner must be present to claim the prize.
"I'm definitely going to go to the picnic," he said. "Who knows, maybe it's my lucky month."
After leaving his native New York to attend college in South Florida, Turco and his family moved to Henderson. He was looking for a place that was convenient to the city, yet out of the way, and said The Equestrian fit the requirements.
"I guess you could say this area is up-and-coming," Turco said. "It's a little out of the way, you're not on top of everybody. There's a lot of shopping that's springing up in the area, so I can get almost anything I need close by."
The grounds at The Equestrian are attractive and well-maintained, he said, which played into his decision to sign a lease.
"I got really lucky and I was able to get in an apartment overlooking the back pool," he said. "I had a bunch of choices, but location was my top priority. I got the dark carpet and the pool view I wanted."
Turco chose a one-bedroom floor plan that measures 723 square feet. It rents for $685.
There are one-, two- and three-bedroom models available, ranging from 723 to 1,141 square feet.
To visit, take Eastern Avenue south of Lake Mead Drive to the entrance between Green Valley Parkway and Summit Grove Road. Leasing office opens 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
Picerne Development also manages The Summit at Sunridge apartment complex one block north of The Equestrian on the opposite side of Eastern, and The Borgata on Jones Boulevard, between Tropicana Avenue and Flamingo Road.
All three Picerne properties provide free local moves.
