May 26, 1999, has been added to the list of historical dates at Lake Las Vegas Resort, according to Sherri O'Boyle, vice president of marketing for the multibillion-dollar residential and resort community in Henderson.
Last Wednesday marked the topping-off of Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort, the first of six proposed hotel/resorts in the community.
The topping-off celebration featured a Moroccan theme with music, hors d'oeuvres and a treasure hunt. Dignitaries from Lake Las Vegas Resort and Hyatt Hotels Corp. presided over the event.
"This is truly an exciting chapter to the unfolding story of Lake Las Vegas Resort," O'Boyle said. "Lake Las Vegas Resort is positioning its northern shores as Southern Nevada's first international lakeside resort destination, and we are honored to have Hyatt Regency be a part of our vision."
Scheduled to open in mid-December, the resort will be Hyatt's 17th in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, and the company's first project in Las Vegas.
"The Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort, with its peaceful, majestic surroundings, will provide a luxurious, relaxing alternative to the bright lights and bustle of the Strip," said Vicros Lopez, division vice president for the company. "Each guest experience will emphasize comfort and personalized service."
Situated on a 21-acre hotel site on the northern shore of Lake Las Vegas, Nevada's largest privately owned lake, the Hyatt Regency is designed to complement the surrounding area.
The resort's Mediterranean-style architecture, conceived by Hill Glazier Architects Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., will feature two-story arched windows, loggias and a tiled rooftop. Decorative ironwork and concrete grills in Moorish-style patterns will accent the facades. A fountain courtyard will lead to a two-story, indoor/outdoor lobby overlooking the lake.
Each of the hotel's 496 rooms, including 47 suites, will offer views of the lake and/or mountains. Standard amenities will include two-line telephones with dataports, hair dryers, coffee makers, irons and ironing boards, refrigerators and safes. Suites offer areas for small business meetings.
The property will feature four two- and three-bedroom casitas with private entrances.
Other planned amenities include a 10,000-square-foot European-style casino; a Moorish-style garden with two swimming pools; palm-shaded terraces; cabanas; beaches; a water slide; a 6,000-square-foot spa/fitness center; fishing, windsurfing and sailing activities on the lake; Camp Hyatt, a children's program; food and beverage options ranging from fine dining to a poolside grill; 40,000 square feet of indoor event space; and courtyards with open-air pavilions and lawn areas for outdoor functions.
Already open to the public, the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club will offer resort guests golfing on a 7,261-yard, par-72 resort course. The greens are home to the nationally televised Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge, which benefits the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Through an exclusive agreement with the golf club, the resort will manage the course's tee times for groups and individuals.
The Reflection Bay Golf & Beach Club offers waterfront dining at La Chandele, which features continental and American cuisine.
Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort is owned by affiliates of Transcontinental Properties Inc.; Hyatt Hotels Corp.; Cook Inlet Region Inc.; and Woodbine Development Corp.
Proposed development on the north shore includes additional hotels, at least four 18-hole championship golf courses, a retail village, restaurants and housing.
The south shore features the 550-acre guard-gated community of SouthShore, where residents enjoy security, privacy and a variety of views. They have access to golf, tennis, sailing, fishing, swimming, hiking and bicycling.
Custom- and estate-home sites are priced from the low $300,000s to $1.75 million.
The latest residential offering at SouthShore is PortaCielo, a neighborhood of 72 homes, Buyers can chose from three Mediterranean-style floor plans, ranging from 2,460 to 3,500 square feet, with several customizing opportunities. They are priced from the mid-$400,000s, plus a lot premium.
