Summerlin to host Shakespeare's `Hamlet'SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE
The Nevada Theatre Co. will present Shakespeare's "Hamlet" next week in Summerlin Centre Community Park. Performances are scheduled Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m., each preceded by a half-hour greenshow, an Elizabethan festival of song, dance and juggling. Kim Haley, a marketing executive for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, said the event marks the third consecutive year Shakespeare has been staged in the master-planned community. "The productions typically attract several thousand people, and this year's staging of one of Shakespeare's most profound and respected tragedies is expected to be no different," she said. "The outdoor location, coupled with one of the city's best theater companies, will make this an inviting event for a diverse audience." The play addresses moral integrity and revenge, and is full of twists and turns, according to Deanna Duplechain, artistic director for Nevada Theatre Co. The organization brought in fight choreographer Colleen Kelly, theater director at the University of San Diego, to assist. "There's a real art to making stage fights seem real," Duplechain said. "Plus, the safety of the actors is paramount. Colleen is one of a handful of certified female fight masters, whose credits include staging fight scenes for television, movie and theater productions throughout the country." The park is located at 1800 Town Center Drive, between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. All tickets are for lawn seating, and are available starting at 4 p.m. on the day of performance. Tickets are $10 for Summerlin residents with resident identification cards, and $14 for the general public. Gourmet picnic fare will be available for purchase, however theater-goers may also bring their own refreshments, as well as lawn chairs and blankets. "We are grateful for Summerlin's community vision and ongoing support of this event," Duplechain said. "We love sharing our passion for Shakespeare with the community." The production is underwritten by Summerlin and its home builders. Additional sponsors include Pulte Homes, KB Home, Sprint, and local television and radio stations. Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for much of the last decade, according to independent surveys. It aligns the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley, and is comprised of villages. Amenities include more than 100 parks, 107 completed miles of trails, schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 120 model homes. Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the high $200,000s to more than $2 million. Custom-home sites in The Ridges village are priced from the $400,000s to more than $1 million. Monthly rent for apartments starts from the low $800s.
