Rhodes Ranch hosts charity walkathon
Residents and staff of Rhodes Ranch were delighted with the turnout for the seventh annual Great Strides walkathon, a fund-raiser of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Several hundred people registered for the 5k (3.1 miles) walk through the golf course community. Great Strides is the foundation's largest and fastest growing fund-raiser to support research, raising more than $17 million in 2001. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that mainly affects the lungs. It generally is diagnosed in children and is fatal, even with regimented treatment. "The people from the foundation were so pleased with the results, they will be returning to Rhodes Ranch for the 2003 fund-raiser," said Jim Rhodes, developer of the community in the southwestern valley. Rhodes Realty Corp. provided refreshments and sponsored festivities for the walkers both before and after the event. Entrants had an opportunity to win prizes such as a handheld computerized organizer, a DVD player and a stereo system. Two lucky entrants won round-trip airline tickets. Rhodes Ranch is selling homes in 15 neighborhoods, including several by Rhodes Homes.
