Red Rock Country Club members rekindle 1970s craze

Members of Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin came down with "Saturday Night Fever" when about 200 guests boogied to the sounds of Jon Morvay and Harbor Lights West during the club's first Disco in the Dark event.

Held on the country club's event lawn, guests pulled out platform shoes, bell-bottom pants and disco attire to enjoy an evening of dancing and food. Prizes were awarded for best costumes and best dancer.

"Recently, the membership selected a social committee to help us design a series of upcoming events for the entire family. Each couple was assigned an event to chair, and Nancy and Martin Stone chaired our first Disco in the Dark," clubhouse manager Nick Corey said.

The committee is also planning a Red Hot & Blues Party, a Murder Mystery Dinner, and a Kids in the Kitchen cooking session.

"We have had much success with our wine tasting and cooking classes," Corey said. "As our community continues to grow at a rapid pace, our members and staff are available to incorporate any new ideas. Our goal is to make Red Rock Country Club the best place to live and play in Las Vegas."

According to Thomas Gilbertson, general manager of the country club, an active lifestyle attracts members.

"One of the main reasons people choose to join or purchase homes within country club communities is for the social interaction with other club members. The average age of the Red Rock Country Club member is only 48, so the club's staff plans a wide variety of social activities and sports events to appeal to all ages," Gilbertson said.

Many of the events are held in a 44,000-square-foot clubhouse. Other amenities include a golf pro shop, dining, sports club, aquatic center, tennis center, and two 18-hole golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer.

Upon completion, the guard-gated country club will consist of 1,116 homes. Priced from the $350,000s to more than $2 million, the one- and two-story designs offer as many as six bedrooms and a four-car garage, and range from 2,300 to 5,300 square feet.

Custom-home sites measuring from 15,000 to 20,000 square feet are available in The Estates. Thirteen lots remain, priced from $315,000 to $500,000.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue west, past Town Center Drive, and follow the signs. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara and exit west. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Nearby, Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Siena.
