Builder touts view lot in Olympia Hills

Steve and Beth Sandlin, owners of a lumber company, are delighted with their custom lot at The Estates at Southern Highlands Golf Club in the southwestern valley, according to their son, Jason Sandlin.

"It's one of the best view lots in Olympia Hills -- sitting above the large, cascading water feature and the ninth green," said Sandlin, project superintendent for Brandise Construction, the company that is building the couple's home. "It's pretty much all view; you can see the Strip and practically the entire city from that site."

The Sandlins' home will feature five bedrooms and seven baths. The design also includes an elevator, dual staircases, a vault and a downstairs secondary master suite. Additional highlights include four fireplaces, marble flooring and a library as well as a study. The exterior is planned to feature a courtyard, pool, patio, and pond with a bridge leading to the home's entry.

The Sandlins expect to move into the 7,800-square-foot home by December.

Sandlin described the private Southern Highlands Golf Club as "really a plus."

"It's perfectly manicured at all times, and no expense was spared in the construction of the course and the clubhouse. It is absolutely beautiful," he said.

The 7,381-yard championship course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr., and is one of the host courses for the PGA Tour's Invensys Classic.

Olympia Hills is one of several enclaves within The Estates, where custom-home sites measure from one-half acre to more than 2 acres. The lots are priced from $300,000 to more than $1 million.

The newest enclave is Vintage Valley, where many of the 71 home sites have golf course or park frontage. Vintage Valley features tree-lined streets, and a 2-acre park with a basketball court and playground.

Residents of The Estates may also take advantage of golf club and fitness center memberships. Construction is set to begin this year on the fitness center.

Southern Highlands, a 2,300-acre master-planned community, will feature jogging and biking trails. A village center is planned.

To visit the community, take Interstate 15 to Lake Mead Drive and exit west, following the signs.

Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
