Street of Dreams draws visitors
Thousands of people experienced the best in Las Vegas home building and interior design last weekend at the premiere of the 2004 Street of Dreams luxury-home and lifestyle show at MacDonald Highlands in Henderson, according to Bryan Ashbaugh, chief executive of Street of Dreams Inc. Visitors toured four multimillion-dollar custom residences, which showcase new-to-the-market materials, electronics and appliances. "As Las Vegas grows, so does the popularity of Street of Dreams," Ashbaugh said. "We had a great turnout for our first weekend with thousands of visitors walking through some of the most elegant and expensive homes we've ever had in a Street of Dreams show." Ashbaugh estimates more than 50,000 people will visit the homes this year. The show continues through June 20. Homes measure from 5,400 to 9,500 square feet and offer views of the city, mountains and DragonRidge Country Club. Participating builders are Christopher Homes, Merlin Contracting and Development, Sun West Custom Homes, and Sunwood Inc. Luxury Home Developers. In conjunction with the show, Street of Dreams has pledged $5,000 to Chef for Kids Inc., a nonprofit initiative of the Fraternity of Executive Chefs of Las Vegas. The program was developed to teach first- and second-graders about the origin, use and need for food, as well as healthy food combinations. Chefs from the organization will present cooking demonstrations in the show homes throughout the run. Homes are open Tuesday through Sunday and on Memorial Day. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with ticket sales stopping at 6 p.m., except on Thursday when ticket sales will continue through 8 p.m. and the homes will remain open until 9 p.m. Adult admission is $12 on weekends and $10 on weekdays. Senior citizens 65 and older and children ages 4 to 12 receive a $2 discount on admission. Children age 3 and younger are admitted free. To visit, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive, go south to Horizon Ridge Parkway then follow the signs to the parking area and the free shuttle to the homes.
