Outdoors lover finds Summerlin a perfect fit
When outdoor enthusiast Susan Fick moved to Las Vegas three years ago, she was looking for a community that reminded her of her Southern California roots, a place that felt like home. She thinks she's found it in Summerlin, the master-planned community that spans the Las Vegas Valley's western rim. "I enjoy camping and mountain biking with my friends," Fick said. "Summerlin's proximity to Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston makes getting outdoors easy and convenient." Fick, who is one of a dozen residents recently featured in the community's new print advertising campaign, uses the Summerlin Trail System for walking her dog, Atlas, and casual cycling. "The Summerlin Trail runs through Pueblo Park near my house," she said. "It's a great place to unwind at the end of the day." Fick added that features such as the park contribute to the way the community looks, making a more pleasant environment. Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for nine of the past 10 years, according to an independent survey by Robert Charles Lesser & Co. The community is being built as a series of villages. It has eight golf courses, nearly 100 parks, nearly 100 completed miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 100 model homes. Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring from one-third acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the $400,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s. To visit the home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara Avenue. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
