Aliante event benefits Lied Animal Shelter

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

Aliante's Trails & Tails event in March was intended as fun for participants but it also was beneficial for the Lied Animal Shelter.

The fund-raiser, which included a 5k run, doggie stroll, kids' run and pet adoption, raised $6,726 for the shelter.

"We are grateful to North Valley Enterprises, the Aliante community and all of the participants in the races for their generosity and willingness to come out and take part in Trails & Tails," shelter director Diane Orgill said. "This donation will help us greatly in our mission to provide a safe environment for lost and abandoned animals, and find loving homes for as many of our adoptable pets as possible."

Kimiko Peterson, community marketing manager for Aliante, presented the check to Orgill.

"The turnout we had for Trails & Tails and the funds we raised for the shelter were beyond anyone's expectations," Peterson said. "I think the success of this event demonstrated how Aliante is a community where people not only enjoy participating in outdoor activities, but are eager to lend their support to a worthwhile community cause."

Lied Animal Shelter is the Las Vegas city facility for lost and abandoned animals. It houses hundreds of animals that are brought in through animal control, public turn-in and owner turn-in. When an animal is released from the lost and found area it is brought into adoptions to await new owners. All dogs and cats adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and current on their shots. Each adopted pet gets a free veterinary visit, plus a bag of food.

Aliante encompasses 1,905 acres and consists of an all-ages village and an age-qualified village that together will have as many as 7,500 homes. Builders in the all-ages village are D.R. Horton, KB Home, Pardee Homes and Pulte Homes. Del Webb is developing the age-qualified Sun City Aliante.

Homes are priced from the $180,000s to the $500,000s.

Nearly 430 acres are designated for recreational and public purposes including the public Aliante Golf Club, parks, trails and an arroyo. Three schools have been proposed. Roughly 100 acres have been set aside for commercial development including a hotel with gaming. A fire station opened in April.

To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Take Interstate 215 to the Aliante Parkway exit then go south to the information center. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

North Valley Enterprises, the developer, is an affiliate of American Nevada Co. and Del Webb Corp.
