SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

More than four dozen individuals will be honored next Saturday at the eighth annual Evening of Excellence sponsored by the Summerlin Children's Forum. Among the honorees will be teachers, parents and students, including two high school seniors who will receive scholarships in recognition of their academic achievement and service to their community and school.

Maritha Chan of Palo Verde High School and Eric Reichenbacher of Cimarron-Memorial High School, will each receive a $5,000 scholarship funded by The Rouse Company Foundation, The Howard Hughes Corp., The Goolsby Family Trust, G.C. Wallace Inc. Engineering, and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Both students are ranked No. 1 in their class.

Chan plans to attend the University of California at San Diego and pursue a career in dentistry. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and enjoys photography. Her volunteer efforts have included book drives, reading projects, helping out at Summerlin Hospital and Medical Center, and tutoring and mentoring younger children.

Reichenbacher will attend the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he plans to study political science. He has received several academic and sports awards during his high school career, and has served as captain of the varsity quiz team. Reichenbacher has volunteered for the Salvation Army and Opportunity Village, as well as in Summerlin elementary schools.

The Summerlin Children's Forum was established in 1997 by community leaders and The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, to improve the quality of education for residents of the master-planned community.

All public and private school students who reside in Summerlin are eligible to participate in the Summerlin Children's Forum, according to Tom Warden, president of the forum and an executive for Hughes Corp.

"The caliber of students found in Summerlin schools is a compliment to teachers, parents and the community," he said. "We are exceedingly proud of their accomplishments and are pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to their ongoing educational experiences."

The event will be held at JW Marriott Las Vegas. Sponsors include The Rouse Co., Hughes Corp., G.C. Wallace Cos., Household Bank and The Merica Agency.
