A Happy Anniversary: Aliante celebrates first year

Aliante marks its first anniversary today with a "Swingin' Block Party" in the master-planned community's Nature Discovery Park. The public is invited to enjoy the festivities from 2 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Dan Naef, an executive at North Valley Enterprises, developer of the community, said the past 12 months have been "phenomenally successful."

"From the beginning, homes in phase one have sold just about as quickly as our builders could release them," he said. "Now we are prepared to introduce a series of 15 beautiful new neighborhoods in the second and final phase of Aliante.

"We have also reached a number of significant community development milestones this year, including the completion of Nature Discovery Park, the Aliante Golf Club, and phase one of the trail system. Construction is under way for two additional city parks, and there is much more exciting development on the horizon."

Today's festivities from 2 to 5 p.m. include a performance by the Purina Incredible Dog Team, Mother's Day crafts and photos, face painting, bounce houses, a radio remote, prizes and giveaways. Refreshments will be available for sale.

From 5 to 7:30 p.m., Blues Beach will perform island-themed tunes, while from 8 to 9 p.m., Jump, Jive and Wail will present big band sounds accompanied by professional swing dancers.

Aliante encompasses 1,905 acres and consists of an all-ages village and an age-qualified village that together will have as many as 7,500 homes. Builders in the all-ages village are D.R. Horton, KB Home, Pardee Homes and Pulte Homes. Del Webb is developing the age-qualified Sun City Aliante.

Homes are priced from the $180,000s to the $500,000s.

Nearly 430 acres are designated for recreational and public purposes including the public Aliante Golf Club, parks, trails and an arroyo. Three schools have been proposed. Roughly 100 acres have been set aside for commercial development including a hotel with gaming. A fire station opened in April.

To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Take Interstate 215 to the Aliante Parkway exit then go south to the information center. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
