Sun City Anthem buyers make trade

Nancy Lester and her husband lived on a yacht in Southern California for a year following retirement, but recently traded the open-sea life for the desert setting of Del Webb Corp.'s Sun City Anthem in Henderson.

A former commercial representative in the electrical industry, Lester finds the age-qualified lifestyle appealing.

"It's like being on a cruise ship every day, there are so many recreational activities you can participate or not, as you wish," she said.

The community's activities can be found at Anthem Center, the 75,000-square-foot recreational building on nearly 20 acres that includes an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor pool, a fitness center with a spa and lounge, eight lighted tennis courts, seven boccie courts, two horseshoe pits, and a care area for visiting grandchildren.

"I'm up there every day, using the indoor walking track, computer club, hiking club, ladies club, playing billiards," Lester said. "There's always something to do and lots of wonderful people to do it with. For example, when I go to yoga, instead of everyone just running out the door as they might in a commercial fitness center, we can sit around and talk, and take the time to get acquainted."

Part of the the builder's master-planned community of Anthem, the age-qualified community offers 17 models, measuring from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet. Prices range from $137,750 to more than $500,000.

"We selected the smallest model because at first we considered this a second home," Lester said. "We still own the yacht, but this is home now.

"At 1,080 square feet, it feels huge to us. One thing I really like in the Hancock model is the master bedroom and guest bedroom on opposite sides of house. We also built a bar into the great room.

"It's easy to entertain here, and we really scored with our neighbors, they are so upbeat and full of life. Sun City has far exceeded our expectations," she said.

To visit the community, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway.

Sales office and model hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
