Couple's pool search ends with Renaissance

Manny and Lauren Laster wanted a pool for their new home, and they chose Renaissance Pools and Spas after a lengthy search.

When the couple visited the company's showroom, the sales staff made more than a sales pitch.

"They brought out a piece of the ceramic-epoxy material that all Renaissance Pools are constructed with and gave me a ball-peen hammer," Manny Laster said. "Then they asked me to try to damage the surface of the pool material. Now I'm a big guy who works in construction, so I hauled off and hit that material with all I had. I couldn't even mar the surface. That really surprised us."

The Lasters chose a ceramic pool over a traditional gunite pool.

"I know from my work in the construction industry that concrete absorbs water and that it will eventually crack," Laster said. "There's just no way around it. The ceramic-epoxy pool is stronger than concrete, it is impervious to moisture and it has a lifetime warranty against cracking and other defects ... it is also transferable if we should ever sell our house."

They selected a kidney-shaped pool to fit in their already-landscaped back yard. Laster removed the sod for the pool, and did the landscaping around it after installation. The process took 19 days.

Renaissance Pools and Spas is the leading seller of in-ground, pre-fabricated pools in Southern Nevada and the exclusive dealer for ceramic-epoxy pools built by Viking Pools. Various pool shapes, colors and finishes are available, and range from 10X16 feet to 45-foot, "hotel-style" diving models.

Prices range from about $16,000 to $32,000 and financing is available. Special consultation and discounts are available for buyers who wish to handle their own pool installation.

The company's showrooms are located at 1245 N. Boulder Highway, about a half-mile south of Sunset Road; and at 2180 W. Craig Road, just west of Interstate 15.
