Street of Dreams event opens

The Street of Dreams luxury housing and lifestyle event opened yesterday, drawing visitors to some of the largest, most expensive and highly appointed homes in the show's 17-year history.

The show is Street of Dreams' third in Southern Nevada since 1998 and the first to feature hillside homes, a home larger than 8,000 square feet and a home priced at more than $3 million. Building materials, furnishings, appliances, art, fabrics, stonework and finishes from around the world have been incorporated to create residences ranging from 5,408 to 8,251 square feet and priced as much as $3.75 million (excluding furnishings and artwork). Each residence has a 180-degree view of the Las Vegas Valley.

Street of Dreams runs through June 16 in the Highlands custom-home neighborhood in MacDonald Highlands, a guard-gated community centered around DragonRidge Golf Club and three neighborhood parks.

The show is open Tuesdays through Sundays and Memorial Day. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (ticket sales stop at 6:30 p.m.). Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for senior citizens and children ages 4 to 12; and free for children ages 3 and under.

Four teams of Southern Nevada-based builders and their architects and interior designers are participating in the event.

Earth, Wind & Fire, built by GJM Development, measures 5,408 square feet and is priced at $1.995 million; Dragon's Oasis, by 5 Star Development/Hi-Con Inc., measures 8,251 square feet and is priced at $3.75 million; Kismet, a 6,000-square-foot residence by Job Construction, is priced at $2.75 million; and Windemere, built by Sun West Custom Homes, measures 7,021 square feet and is priced at $3.2 million.

Featured highlights include a basement recreation room with windows displaying the depths of the swimming pool; vanity mirrors that instantly transform into TV or Internet monitors; a dining nook with a thin retractable acrylic screen that serves as a TV or computer monitor via a hidden projector; an invisible pool deck off a master suite, which gives the illusion of walking on water; a 1,700-square-foot master suite; a three-story elevator; disappearing glass doors between the indoor and outdoor living areas; two-story dual closets; a dry-cleaning machine in a master suite; and motorized window coverings.

Also displayed are the latest in high-tech appliances, home automation and entertainment systems.

The various water features include waterfalls, water walls, moats, streams and fountains -- both inside and outside the homes. The swimming pools offer stone and rock features, invisible edges, and custom lighting.

"Street of Dreams provides visitors with endless opportunities to experience the ultimate in luxury living, and speak to a variety of building professionals about the latest trends in home design, comfort and technology," said Bryan Ashbaugh, CEO of Seattle-based Street of Dreams Inc.
