Green Valley to host art show event

The Green Valley Town Center Art and Craft Festival will transform the Henderson center's west fountain courtyard area into an art walk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow.

The show is sponsored by American Nevada Co., the center's developer and property manager, and organized by local artist Mark Vranesh.

Works by more than 100 artists from Nevada, Arizona, California, Utah and Oregon will be displayed. A variety of media will be showcased including painting, sculpture, pottery, glasswork, photography and jewelry.

There also will be booths with specialty crafts such as handmade soaps, candles, potpourri and clothing, as well as gourmet items.

New to the show this year is an art contest for Henderson children. Themed "Art Makes the World a Better Place," the contest will be judged in three age categories. Gift certificates for art supplies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third- place winners in each category during an awards ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Also, children can participate in a variety of hands-on arts and crafts projects in the "Kidz Art Park" including creating Mother's Day cards, mural painting, coloring and other activities. A nominal fee will be charged for a ceramic painting activity, while supplies last.

Entertainment will be provided by Vibhas and Prasado Kendzia, who play multiple instruments; and Leo Gosselin, who pioneered a new technique on strings using the Chapman Stick Touchboard.

Community booths by the Paseo Verde Library, Nevada Watercolor Society, Henderson Senior Art Club, Desert Sculptors and National Missing Children Locator Center also will be featured.

In its sixth year, event organizers expect this year's show to be the largest.
