Sullivan Square is seeing the earth move at its West Village site. The project's general contractor, UPA Group, began drilling and blasting for the project's underground utilities and underground parking this week. Underground work is scheduled through mid-June.
"We have reached another significant milestone at Sullivan Square with the commencement of site preparation," said Kenneth Smith, president of Glen, Smith & Glen Development.

The mixed-use development has sold more than 50 percent of the units in its first tower, Madison Tower I.
Madison Tower II will offer brownstone residences and live/work spaces. These newly announced designs are available for reservation.
"It's exciting for us to start bringing equipment on site and moving dirt," said Steven Parker, senior vice president of UPA Group. Parker said two drilling rigs were placed at Sullivan Square with four more planned during the site work period. A portable rock crusher will also be moved on site and is able to process up to 4,000 cubic yards of dirt per day.
A series of drilling and blasting efforts are scheduled between March 28 and June 13. During this time, 15 separate blasts are scheduled which will help facilitate the excavation of dirt and caliche to depths of 30 feet in preparation for the buildings' foundations and underground parking garage.
Upon completion, Sullivan Square will consist of as many as 1,300 residences. Along with the high-rise towers, live/work spaces and traditional brownstones, the mixed-use project will offer terraced condominiums, Chicago-style lofts and townhomes completing the community's six options of urban living.
Units in the first phase range from 500 to 2,000 square feet. Pricing begins in the mid-$300,000s.
