Singles bond at Del Webb communities

A singles club has been formed at Del Webb's age-qualified Solera at Anthem community in Henderson.

"The Solera neighborhood is fantastic, I love it up here. It's nice to have companionship though, so all of us singles are excited about the prospect of meeting new people and planning activities together," said JoAnne Decenzo, who with Barb Blum, organized the group's first meeting.

"We had 10 residents meet at Barb's home and were pleased with the mix -- about half men and half women. Our first planned activity is a group dinner outing, and we'll go from there and see what happens," Decenzo said.

The residents-only group is modeled after the 180-member singles club at the builder's nearby Sun City Anthem community.

"Our activities include sports, cooking, theater, concerts, movies and games. We meet once a month," President Betty Carlson said.

Although designed to provide activities for like-minded singles, Carlson said, "about two or three couples have actually gotten engaged as a result of meeting at the club, and we've lost them as members as soon as they got married."

Both communities also offer myriad activities and amenities for couples, as well as singles.

Tennis and bocce courts are open at Solera, while a recreation and fitness center; swimming pool; billiard tables; and rooms for clubs, hobbies, computers and crafts are planned.

Five floor plans are available, ranging from 1,140 to 1,771 square feet and priced from the $290,000s to the $390,000s. They include ceiling fans, telephone and cable connections in every room, Corian counter tops, raised-panel cabinets, garage door openers, microwave ovens, and covered patios.

Amenities at Sun City Anthem include the 77,363-square-foot Anthem Center, site of fitness, social and recreational activities, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. An additional 33,000-square-foot recreation center is planned and scheduled to open in 2005.

The Revere at Anthem Golf Club features two 18-hole championship courses.

Sun City Anthem has 12 floor plans, ranging from 1,496 to 3,175 square feet. Homes are priced from the high $350,000s to more than $600,000.

All of the builder's homes have the Environments for Living technology with energy-saving features such as low-e windows and cocoon insulation. In addition to being recognized as Energy Star homes by the Environmental Protection Agency, they offer a three-year heating and cooling energy-use guarantee.

To visit Solera, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, to Anthem Parkway, turn left and proceed to Somersworth Drive. The office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To visit Sun City, take Eastern Avenue south, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then turn right on Alexandria Drive. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
