Public invited to Summerlin Sam's birthday party

Summerlin Sam, the beloved jack rabbit mascot of the Summerlin master-planned community, will celebrate his fourth birthday next Saturday and the public is invited.

The Safari-theme party will be held at The Arbors Tennis & Play Park, 601 Laurelglen Drive, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Festivities will include a special appearance by Susie the pachyderm, Ripley the monkey and Romeo the lynx, all of whom are residents of the Serengetti Ranch in Southern California. The ranch supports the Elephants of Africa Rescue Society, which supports projects that secure a safe habitat for wild, African animals.

Other special guests will include Tarzan and Jane, and Simba from The Lion King. As in year's past, several community mascots will be on hand to help Sam celebrate, including Rio Rita, Cha Cha the Red-Eyed Tree Frog, Hey Reb, Billy Bob the Bobcat and Happy Star.

The event will also feature storytelling, appearances by favorite children's TV characters, an interactive touch experience presented by the Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park, and a gymnastics performance.

Party guests are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal for donation to Ronald McDonald Charities, which will give them to hospitalized children in the Las Vegas area.

Summerlin's houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from under $100,000 to more than $700,000. Custom lots from one-quarter acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from $100,000 to more than $1 million, while pre-designed custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million.

Apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the $700s.

To visit the home finding center, take Sahara Avenue west past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
