Summerlin home to golf courses
Summerlin contains more golf courses than any other master-planned community in Southern Nevada, according to Larry Brocato, an executive with The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin's developer. He said the nine courses enhance quality of life for the residents, even those who do not play golf. "Living adjacent to a golf course not only adds ambiance, it enhances aesthetics and creates a peaceful living environment. Golf course lots continue to be among our most sought after homes and lots," he said. The courses include Nevada's only Tournament Players Club facilities. TPC at Summerlin, a 7,243-yard, par-72 course, opened in 1991 as the community's first golf course. Located in The Hills South village, the course was designed by golf course architect Bobby Weed with player consultant Fuzzy Zoeller and served as the home course of the PGA Tour Invensys Classic. TPC at The Canyons opened in 1996 in The Canyons village. It is a par-71, 7,063-yard course. Also featured is Bear's Best Las Vegas, which opened in The Ridges in 2001. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course duplicates signature holes from Nicklaus' courses throughout the western United States and Mexico. Red Rock Country Club offers two courses designed by Arnold Palmer: The Mountain and The Arroyo. The private Mountain Course is an 18-hole, par-72, 6,965-yard championship course, while the daily fee Arroyo Course, which opened in 2003, is an 18-hole, par-72, 6,857-yard course. Located with the age-qualified Siena community, Siena Golf Club is an 18-hole executive course. The 6,850-yard, par-72 is open to the public. Sun City Summerlin, the master-plan's first age-qualified community, contains three public courses: Highland Falls, Palm Valley and Eagle Crest. Aligning the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin is being developed in villages. It has 107 neighborhood and village parks, more than 100 miles of trails, schools, houses of worship, retail and business centers, medical facilities and cultural facilities. Nearly 120 model homes showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums, which are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots in The Ridges village are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Monthly apartment rents start from the low $800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/real estate and click on the Summerlin link.
