Summerlin residents in step with spring
Summerlin residents marked St. Patrick's Day at the sixth annual St. Patty's Day 5K, held at The Trails Park in the master-planned community. The residents-only event was planned by The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit branch of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to social, cultural, educational and recreational activities. Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, the council's director of community relations, said the St. Patty's Day run is popular. "The timing of this event is perfect. The early spring season invigorates many of our active residents who enjoy running for both fitness and pleasure." The St. Patty's Day 5K is one of three annual races coordinated by the council. Others are The Firecracker 5K, held in conjunction with the Summerlin Patriotic Parade in July, and the Monster Dash in October. "Summerlin promotes an active lifestyle with its many events and amenities that cater to recreational enthusiasts," said Tom Warden, an executive with The Howard Hughes Corp., the community's developer. "This significantly contributes to the overall quality of life for many community residents." Situated along the valley's western rim, the community is being developed in villages. It is home to golf courses, parks, trails, schools, houses of worship, retail and business centers, medical facilities and cultural facilities. Available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are showcased by nearly 120 models. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites in The Ridges village are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the low $800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/real estate and click on the Summerlin link.
