"Summerlin Hospital is growing with the community," said Tom Warden, vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties and developer of Summerlin. "Health care is an important amenity in our community that significantly contributes to the well-being of Summerlin residents. It's comforting to know that high quality health care is available right in our own backyard."
The additional tower at Summerlin Hospital will add 170 private patient rooms, bringing the total number of rooms to 450.
The expansion will add labor, delivery and recovery suites, antepartum and postpartum suites and new beds in a number of other key areas such as neonatal and intensive care, critical care, medical/telemetry and post surgery rooms.
Groundbreaking on the new tower is scheduled for late winter with an anticipated opening in mid-2009.
The expansion will more than double the hospital's current emergency room and will add 30 more beds and treatment areas, a dedicated radiology X-ray suite and CT scanner.
Additional space is being constructed within the hospital for future expansions that will ultimately accommodate 35 private patient rooms, two new operating suites and a third cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Groundbreaking for the emergency room expansion is scheduled for this spring with an anticipated opening in mid-2008.
Additional plans to add an 80,000-square-foot medical office building and a new parking structure are also under way. Groundbreaking dates for these projects have not yet been announced.
"During Summerlin Hospital's 10-year history, the hospital has grown from a 147-bed community hospital to a thriving 281-bed medical center that offers comprehensive services ranging from pediatric intensive care to open-heart surgery," said Tim L. Hingtgen, chief executive officer and managing director of the hospital. "We're committed to adding new services, technology, resources and skilled professionals to further our advancement as the most comprehensive hospital in the western suburbs of Las Vegas."
