Three schools are slated to open in Summerlin for the 2007-2008 school year. Currently under construction, the two private schools -- Bishop Gorman High School and the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson High School -- and Clark County School District's Wilbur and Theresa Faiss Middle School, will bring the total number of schools in Summerlin to 22.
Located on a 35-acre campus at Hualapai Way and Russell Road near Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, the new campus of Bishop Gorman High School will accommodate up to 1,200 students in a 187,000-square-foot facility. The campus will include a 300-seat chapel, technology and research library, art facilities, performing arts theatre and athletic facilities for both school and community use.

"We are proud to be the new home of Bishop Gorman High School, the only Catholic college preparatory high school in Las Vegas," said Kevin Orrock, top division executive of The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties and developer of Summerlin. "As only the second location for this Southern Nevada educational institution, Summerlin will play an important role in Bishop Gorman's ongoing history."
The Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson High School is being constructed adjacent to the Milton I. Schwartz Hebrew Academy at 9700 W. Hillpointe Road. The school will accommodate grades nine and 10 in four new classrooms and several portable classrooms when it opens this fall. By fall 2008, the entire facility will be complete.
"Once again, Summerlin can boast of another 'first' as the home community of the valley's first and only Jewish high school," Orrock said. "From Summerlin's inception, education has been a cornerstone of the community, and Summerlin is a place where education, children and families are valued."
The new high school will feature classrooms integrated with media and computer technology, providing a complete media center and research library, extensive music and art facilities, performing arts center, computer center and full-service dining facility.
The Adelson School will have an indoor swimming pool; plus a full physical education facility with regulation-size basketball court, indoor track, fencing, volleyball; outdoor tennis courts and soccer field. The Adelsons provided $25 million in fundig for this new high school.
Wilbur and Theresa Faiss Middle School, located in the southernmost tip of Summerlin, south of Sunset Road at Fort Apache and Maule Avenue, is a 148,000-square-foot facility in the final stages of construction.
It features a full-size gymnasium with men's and women's locker rooms; large designated classroom studios to accommodate band, orchestra, drama and fine arts programs; five full computer labs; multi-media broadcasting rooms; cafeteria with full-service kitchen; and library and administrative offices.
According to Principal Joy Jameson Lea, Faiss Middle School will be the only school in Clark County School District to offer social studies to sixth grade students to enhance awareness of world events.
