Siena proves popular in Summerlin
SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE Siena's 304 home sales last year earned the age-qualified village top sales honors in the mixed-price homes category in Summerlin, the top-selling master-planned community in the United States. "This is a terrific honor, both for Siena and Sunrise Colony Company," Ed Smith, vice president of sales, said. "We're thrilled and grateful to our home buyers for making Siena one of the leading developments in one of the nation's most outstanding master-planned communities. "There are 78 million baby boomers, the largest generation in American history, and they love Las Vegas. The National Association of Home Builders predicts Southern Nevada will remain one of the country's most popular areas for people over 50 for years to come. That can only be good news for Siena." In addition to 24-hour security, which includes a guard-gated entry and neighborhood patrol, Siena's success can be attributed to the lifestyle if offers, according to Smith. "I think a major reason Siena is proving so popular is that it was designed to be a resort community, not a retirement community," he said. "It's a place that encourages full participation in the fun side of life. There are so many things to do up here -- golf courses, parks, Red Rock Canyon. "This village is recreating a greatly missed way of life for the generations who grew up in traditional small-town America. People know and care about each other." Shared amenities include a 12,000-square-foot social center, which is the site of classes ranging from ballroom dancing to computers to painting. There are several special interest clubs forming and a full-time activities director. The fitness center is frequented by many residents on a daily basis, according to its director, Wayne Ireland. The 15,900-square-foot facility houses a wellness center, cardiovascular and weight equipment, a 25-meter indoor swimming pool and spa, and locker rooms with sauna and steam rooms. Also available is a full-service beauty salon and day spa. Outdoor amenities include lighted tennis courts, bocce ball courts, a resort-style pool and a lap pool. Siena residents are given special rates and preferred tee times at the community's 18-hole championship golf course, which is available for public play. Homes are priced from the $160,000s to $650,000. All single-story and detached, 14 floor plans are available, ranging from 1,200 to more than 3,000 square feet. To tour the model complex, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive then head south to Siena Monte. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
