City park opens in Green Valley Ranch

Hundreds of visitors turned out March 3 for the dedication of yet another city park in Green Valley Ranch, a master-planned community in Henderson. Dos Escuelas Park, which is Spanish for "two schools," is situated on a 10-acre parcel between John C. Vanderburg Elementary School and the future Neil C. Twitchell Elementary School.

It is the third city park to open within the community, which is a development of American Nevada Corp.

Company executive Greg Jones credited a cooperative effort for making the park a reality.

"American Nevada Corp., the city of Henderson and the Clark County School District worked very closely on this project...," Jones said. "As we look toward the completion of Green Valley Ranch, we have close to 4,000 families that now call this community home."

As with all parks in Green Valley Ranch, American Nevada Corp. donated the land and improvements for the park, then deeded the property to the city, which will manage it. Park amenities include two lighted baseball fields, two lighted tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, two children's play areas, a picnic area, grass area, a fenced park for dogs and restrooms.

Visitors to the dedication enjoyed free refreshments, music, dancing, games and prizes.

Green Valley Ranch is in its final phase of development, with homes remaining for sale at Castle Rock Estates by Richmond American Homes, Meritage by Capital Pacific Homes and Carriage Lane by U.S. Home. Prices start from from the $160,000s.

In addition to parks, the community features a network of walking and jogging trails as well as shade pavilions and rest areas.

The Henderson Promenade and Special Events Plaza is planned for a 38-acre site within the community, again on land donated by the developer. It will host art, music and cultural events and will include a 7,500-seat amphitheater; police substation; public library; and 70,000-square-foot community center with an outdoor swimming pool, activities pool and indoor aquatic center.
