MacDonald Highlands evolves into hillsides
Rich MacDonald's vision for a hillside community in Southern Nevada is becoming a reality at his MacDonald Highlands luxury-home community in Henderson, which will ultimately offer 17 neighborhoods spread over 1,200 acres. "MacDonald Highlands is about three things -- stunning hillside homes situated around a beautiful golf course and surrounded by views of the Las Vegas Valley," MacDonald, president of the MacDonald Cos., said "There are few communities in Southern Nevada that offer this triple combination." The public will be able to view hillside designs during the Street of Dreams luxury-home tour, scheduled from May 4 to June 16. Four custom homes will be showcased, each taking advantage of sloping hillside lots and city views. "The 2002 Street of Dreams will likely be the most spectacular of any we've put together in Southern Nevada," said Bryan Ashbaugh, CEO of Street of Dreams Inc. "The unique hillside geography of MacDonald Highlands, coupled with the community's unparalleled views of the valley offer the opportunity to really create something special." More than 40 custom homes have been built or are in the building process at the guard-gated community. Seven custom homes are available, ranging from 5,400 to 8,200 square feet and priced from $1.4 million to $3.45 million. There are currently 10 custom neighborhoods under development with home sites priced from $159,000 to more than $2 million. Among the neighborhoods are: The Highlands, offering lots with partial city and mountain views; Lochmere with golf frontage, lake and mountain views; Palisades and Lairmont with golf frontage, city and mountain views; Montrose with golf frontage and mountain views; and Lochinver Ridge and Glenbrook Canyon, featuring hillside lots with city and mountain views. Stonehaven at MacDonald Highlands features semicustom homes by Toll Bros. Featured in the community is the MacDonald Highlands Golf Club. Its course was designed by Jay Morrish and David Druzisky and incorporates the desert and mountains in its design. A clubhouse, which is scheduled for completion next year, will feature a golf shop, exercise facility, swimming pool, upscale dining room, and mixed grill and lounge. A temporary clubhouse is open, and tee times are available. Plans for the community include three parks encompassing about 10 acres with tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; play areas; and picnic facilities. Fitness trails that provide access to nature trails leading into the mountains are also planned. The community's information office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. To visit, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive, turn south and proceed to Horizon Ridge Parkway.
