Residents love life in Summerlin
Chicago transplants Len and Gigi Kolber said they love their new life as residents of the Summerlin master-planned community, and relish each morning they don't have to get up and shovel snow off the driveway. "I have been a frequent visitor to Las Vegas for decades. When I thought about retiring, Las Vegas was the natural choice. There's so much to do here and the weather's great. Although we were sure about our decision to move here, we weren't initially sure where to live. But Summerlin has exceeded our expectations. We're especially proud to call the community home," Len Kolber said. A Realtor steered them to Summerlin, according to Gigi Kolber, who works for a financial institution. "We looked all over Las Vegas, but our Realtor saved Summerlin -- the best -- for last. And once we saw the community, we fell in love," she said. The Kolbers, who have five children and six grandchildren, said they especially enjoy living in a multigenerational community. "We really like going to the park and walking along the trail, watching young people and young families enjoying themselves. It makes us feel young, too," Len Kolber said. He jokes that since moving to Las Vegas he now sees cousins and friends he hasn't seen for years. "Everyone wants to come here. I've got a nephew who wants to retire here, too," Len Kolber said. The Kolbers said they also appreciate the community's amenities. "Everything's here. From the grocery store to restaurants, from the library to the hospital, Summerlin's got it all. We feel very content. ... It's a good feeling," Gigi Kolber said. Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys. Situated along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, the community is being developed in villages and is home to eight golf courses, 105 parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 18 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, and business parks. Nearly 165 models showcase the single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums available within the community. Homes are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre in The Ridges are priced from the high $400,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s. To visit the home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive and turn north. Or take Interstate 215 to Sahara, head east to Town Center and turn north. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
