Fire station opens in Sun City Anthem

Del Webb Corp. contributed significantly to the city of Henderson and its residents recently by donating land and funding for the construction of Fire Station No. 99. The new station opened last month within the developer's Sun City Anthem community.

At the opening ceremony on Feb. 26, Mayor James B. Gibson expressed the city's appreciation.

"This is a great example of public and private entities working together. We are grateful to Del Webb for donating $2.5 million, as well as the land to build Station No. 99," Gibson said.

In addition, Del Webb donated $600,000 to purchase a Pierce Skyboom fire truck, the first of two trucks with a 61-foot aerial ladder planned for Henderson. The funds will also be used to purchase fire suppression and life rescue equipment.

Henderson Fire Chief Jim Cavalieri said the Skyboom fire truck allows for smaller, more maneuverable ladder trucks to perform two functions: a ladder truck for ventilation and roof fires, and an engine company for firefighters and EMS providers. The Skyboom truck allows for three-story roof access. The latest technology in heart monitoring equipment, LifePac 12 cardiac and diagnostic monitors will also be added to the truck.

"We see new technology, such as the LifePac 12 machines, as crucial in improving our service to the community," Cavalieri said. "It is our plan to continually explore new technology, providing Henderson firefighters with the tools to save lives."

The 8,200-square-foot station was designed by HCA Architects and built by O.B. Construction Inc.

"Anthem is a place of beauty. This station is not only functional, but architecturally beautiful," said Del Webb executive Chris Haines, who also presented the city with a check for $298,000.

"Since construction costs came in under budget, we are donating the balance of the construction budget to Henderson," he said.

Sun City Anthem is located within Del Webb's Anthem master-planned community. Home buyers can choose from 19 models at the age-qualified community, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and larger through the Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the low $140,000s to more than $500,000.

To tour the model village, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway.

The models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
