Wheeling, dealing starts for land west of McCarran
Despite strong interest in the area west of the airport, many developers are taking a wait-and-see approach to the first public offering of these lands.
Clark County will conduct its first auction of parcels in the Cooperative Management Area at its regularly scheduled March 21 County Commission meeting. The CMA, established through a 1992 agreement between Clark County and the Bureau of Land Management, encompasses about 20,000 acres of federally owned land near McCarran International Airport, mainly to the west of the facility. Its purpose is to ensure those lands are used in ways that are compatible to the airport in terms of noise and safety. Housing, hospitals and churches are uses that are not allowed. Industrial and some commercial purposes are permitted.
