Typewriter collector clicks at Sun City Anthem

Collecting miniature typewriters is a hobby that really clicks for Sun City Anthem resident Joyce Kupsh. A retired college professor, Kupsh has nearly 200 miniature replicas of typewriters and computers.

"I started out teaching typing years ago," Kupsh said. "My husband Paul gave me the novelty typewriters as gifts because I taught various business courses at Cal Poly Pomona, for 43 years. The collection just grew from there. We have collected them from all parts of the world."

The couple resides in the 2,752-square-foot Monticello model at the Del Webb community in Henderson, where Kupsh keeps her collection in a display case built into the library. The home also features a covered patio, an island kitchen and a Nevada room.

"We loved all the models at Sun City Anthem, but this one met all our needs with space for two offices, a library, and two spacious bedroom suites on opposite sides of the house, which is great for overnight guests."

Kupsh opted for upgrades such as marble-tile flooring and a built-in refrigerator.

"We enjoy eating in the dining area just off the kitchen where we can admire the fantastic view of the city," she said.

Sun City Anthem offers 19 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and larger through the Gold Key program. Prices range from the low $140,000s to more than $500,000.

The 75,000-square-foot Anthem Center offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents, as well as Trumpets Restaurant, which is open to the public.

"The fitness center is great," Kupsh said. "I use the exercise equipment and weights every day."

The couple also joined the computer club, finance club, billiard club, and hiking club.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway and follow the signs.

The sales office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
