Anthem residents eager to help

After careers helping others, new Sun City Anthem residents Pat and Peter Nolan have no plans to stop serving the community.

"Volunteering makes my husband and I feel blessed," Pat Nolan, a retired hospice director from Woodland Hills, Calif., said.

In addition to her work, Nolan served on a grant committee for a hospice foundation. Peter Nolan, a retired attorney, served as president of Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles and aided its fund-raising activities.

Nolan said she and her husband will continue volunteering once they are settled into their home in Del Webb's age-qualified community in Henderson.

She expressed interest in working with hospices or mentoring children. Peter Nolan also is interested in working with children.

"As soon as we finish unpacking, that is," she said.

The Nolans will share their Mayflower model with their two soft-coated wheaten terriers, Lily and Billy.

"The size of the house fits our needs, and it's not overwhelming. We also liked the way the kitchen flows into the great room. We like to entertain when our son and daughter-in-law or friends come to visit, and the great room is the heart of the house," Nolan said.

"Friends who knew we were interested in relocating after retiring recommended Sun City Anthem. Everybody has wonderful things to say about (it) and how easy it is to make friends," Nolan said, adding "Peter was impressed with the golf courses. He loves to golf."

The Revere at Anthem Golf Club offers two championship courses.

The Nolans also plan to take advantage of the activities available at Anthem Center, which offers social, recreational and fitness opportunities, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge.

Models range from 1,235 to 3,175 square feet. Homes are priced from the high $170,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then turn right on Alexandria Drive. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
