Buffett bullish on Summerlin store

Warren Buffett, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., touted the success of the new RC Willey Home Furnishings store in Summerlin during its recent grand-opening celebration.

According to Buffett, the store has ranked first or second in weekly sales within the chain since it opened in May. Buffett's holding company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns RC Willey, the largest home furnishings store west of the Mississippi River. It has two locations in Southern Nevada.

Store executives said the 180,000-square-foot Summerlin facility is the company's most elegant and upscale to date, and is merchandised specifically to meet the needs of the community.

It anchors South Square Marketplace, a retail center under development by The Howard Hughes Corp. at the intersection of Town Center Drive and Interstate 215. The furniture store is the first to open in the 470,000-square-foot retail center and encompasses about one-third of its total acreage.
