Rolladen rolling shutters' strengths touted
Ingrid Fugate, who had Rolladen rolling shutters on her childhood home in Stutt- gart, Germany, recently installed them on the northwestern valley home she shares with her husband, Bill. "I love them. I've wanted them since I came to the United States 37 years ago," said Ingrid Fugate, recalling how the shutters kept the upstairs cool during hot days. "The only shutters I had seen here were the old wooden ones on farm houses. "The shutters are good because of the environment. They are excellent for the heat and also good for the cold," said Fugate, whose seven shutters are operated via remote control. "We also wanted them for the noise. My kids always complained that their rooms weren't dark enough before we had the shutters installed." The foam-filled shutters can be installed on doors and windows. Company representatives say the shutters lower power consumption by as much as 64 percent. Their multifaceted design also eliminates sunlight, protects against burglary, and prevents sun damage to furniture, draperies and carpeting. The shutters are custom-made for each home or business, and can be operated manually or electronically. The company's showroom, located at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd., is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday.
