Family follows buyers to Sun City

Since 15-year Las Vegas residents Tony and Dede Savino bought a home at Del Webb Corp.'s Sun City Anthem in Henderson, their family members have become their neighbors.

"Everybody who comes here just wants to move here," Dede Savino said. "We are from the Bronx, N.Y., and after our relatives from back East visited, they decided to move to Sun City Anthem, too."

Savino's cousins are new residents at the age-qualified community and her husband's parents plan to move in this August.

"Our daughter Christine, and son-in-law, Carlos Huerta, live in Anthem Country Club. Carlos is in real estate development and told us (about) Sun City Anthem. So we checked it out and just love it here," Savino said.

Although Savino, a high school teaching assistant, and her husband, a data processing supervisor, still hold down jobs, they are looking forward to retiring in a few years.

"Without a doubt this is the place to retire. We liked what Del Webb had to offer, especially the fitness center. I work out at least five times per week, and the recreation center is fantastic," Savino said.

Married 35 years, the Savinos love to mingle.

"Tony is a boccie coordinator, and I'm taking all kinds of special interest classes like tai chi, aerobics and computers. We both like the Arts and Crafts Club, playing poker and meeting people in the rec center," she said.

The community offers 17 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the community's Gold Key program. Homes are priced from $137,750 to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
