Social calendar ensures residents keep busy at Sunrise Colony's Siena
There is never a dull moment for residents at Siena, an age-qualified community by Sunrise Colony Co. in Summerlin, a master-planned community. "We are always looking to design fun, interesting, unique and educational activities for our residents to participate in. Not only do they get the opportunity to experience some great events, they also have numerous occasions to socialize with their fellow neighbors," Kristyne Blake, activities manager, said. On average, Blake said about five or six Siena Signature Events and at least five craft-type classes are scheduled every month. "We recently held the first Siena garage sale where approximately 27 or our residents took the time to clean out their closets and make a couple of dollars on a beautiful day," Blake said. The events have featured everything from on-site theatrical performances and holiday potlucks to tours of local points of interest and cultural and sporting event outings. In July, there will be a Fourth of July barbecue, outing to the Strip to see entertainer Clint Holmes, an organ concert by Amy Kaplan, resident potluck and recipe swap, and an outing to Spring Mountain Ranch State Park for Super Summer Theatre's presentation of "L'll Abner." In addition to the events, the community's social center hosts a variety of classes. In July, residents will be able to participate in quilting, stamping, paper making, appliqué, and crafting a custom-made swag/wall hanging classes. The community also has a variety of clubs and groups for interests such as bridge, bunco, bocce, books, ceramics, computers, men's and women's golf, horseshoes, sewing, organ, military, tennis and Scrabble. Group games of canasta, pan, mah jongg and dominoes are also scheduled on a regular basis. "The events at Siena are a wonderful way to meet your neighbors and new friends," said resident Suellen Levy, who attends many of the social events and is a founding member of the Siena Welcome Committee. "There is just so much here to do I feel like a kid at camp. But the great thing about Siena is you can do as much as you want or as little as you like." Many of the activities are held in an interim social center. The community will break ground on a 17,600-square-foot community center this summer, with completion anticipated in spring 2003. In addition to the activities, residents may enjoy the community's 13,500-square-foot golf clubhouse, pro shop, The Siena Bistro, health and fitness center, wellness center, and full-service beauty salon and day spa. The community's 18,-hole, daily-fee Siena Golf Club, which was designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley, is open to the public and offers Siena residents preferred rates and tee times. Homes at the 665-acre community are priced from the $140,000s to the $650,000s. Eighteen single-story floor plans range from 1,040 to more than 3,100 square feet. Options and upgrades may be selected at the builder's on-site design studio. The community's newest offering, the Portofino Collection, features four attached floor plans, ranging from 1,040 to 1,378 square feet and priced from $144,500 to $169,700. To tour the model village, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and go south to Siena Monte Avenue. The sales office and models are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin.
