Residents ready to respond at Siena

Thirteen residents of Siena, an age-qualified community in Summerlin, recently graduated from the Community Emergency Response Team training course held at the Las Vegas Fire Training Academy.

"The Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, course is a national program designed to train people to help themselves, their families and their neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster," Kelley Clement, activities manager, said.

Although it is best to call 911 or use regular emergency services when in need, during a large-scale catastrophic emergency these resources may not be quickly available due to the scale of the disaster, impassable roads or disrupted communication systems, according to Clement. Under these conditions, CERT may be activated to help provide limited emergency service to Siena residents.

The volunteers received training in disaster preparedness, fire suppression, search and rescue, medical operations and weapons of mass destruction.

Developed by Sunrise Colony Co., homes are priced from the $150,000s to the $400,000s, plus home-site premiums. Eighteen single-story designs are available, measuring from 1,040 to 3,200 square feet.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and go south to Siena Monte Avenue. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
