Realtors, Habitat dedicate new home

The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors recently celebrated the completion of the organization's first fully sponsored Habitat for Humanity home in North Las Vegas.

"The community relations committee is thrilled to be associated with Habitat for Humanity and we are equally excited to have raised enough money to be able to be the exclusive sponsor of a new Habitat home," committee chairman Sue Streeter said. "We have been involved with Habitat for the past nine years and have supported Habitat through volunteer efforts and money that we have raised through our annual golf tournament. We look forward to raising enough money again this year to build another house in its entirety."

The homeowner, Patricia Boyd, is a Clark County School District employee who shares the house with her daughter.

Boyd contributed more than 250 sweat equity hours at the construction site and performed other volunteer work to qualify for the home.

"We are very pleased to be a part of this wonderful organization," association president Gayle Brown Fox said. "Habitat for Humanity gives deserving people opportunities they may not otherwise receive. Patricia worked very hard to earn this new home."

Since 1991, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas has helped to build 37 homes for low-income families in Clark County.

"We are deeply grateful to the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors for their commitment to Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas," executive director Susan Mackert said during the dedication ceremony. "Their support has provided not only the funds we need to build homes, but also an increased awareness in the community, which results in more volunteers, more partners and more homes for families in need."

The association is the local representative of the National Association of Realtors.
