Buyers impressed by Granite Peaks

There are many different methods of purchasing a home for people moving to Las Vegas from out of state. Some buy the home sight unseen, some travel down for a weekend and see a dozen homes and quickly choose one, and others take their time by moving first and then finding a home.

Susan and Robert Keagy chose to take their time. They moved to Las Vegas from La Jolla, Calif., where they had lived for 18 years and took the task of finding a new home seriously.

"Moving to Las Vegas was a big decision for us and we wanted to make sure that we found a home and neighborhood that would suit our lifestyle," Susan Keagy said. "Moving here first, before purchasing, allowed us the time to explore the different areas of Las Vegas and discover what we liked."

The couple spent several months searching for the right home and discovered it at KB Home's Granite Peaks neighborhood in Summerlin.

"We really liked the Calico Vista floor plan, and once we saw the home site we knew we had found our home," she said. "The home site we chose provided a beautiful view of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area from the upstairs balcony. It was a dream come true."

After the Keagys found their ideal home, they embarked on another adventure -- purchasing it. It is their first new home.

"We had a lot to learn about buying a new home, and I was very hesitant and speculative about the process due to different stories I had heard," she said. "But the KB Home staff put all of my fears to rest. They have really walked me through the home-building process step-by-step. I know and trust that my house will be built to my satisfaction. I can't wait to see the finished product."

Six floor plans are available at the neighborhood, measuring from 1,717 to 2,546 square feet. The one- and two-story designs offer two to five bedrooms, two or three baths, and two- or three-car garages. Three designs are modeled at the neighborhood.

Prices start from the high $170,000s to the $210,000s.

To visit, take Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and head north. Go west on Desert Inn Road and then take a left on Ridge Hollow Drive. The sales office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Friday, when it opens at 11 a.m.

The builder sponsors the Homebuyers Club, which offers potential buyers free credit reports, reviews of their financial situations, and credit counseling. Staff at the builder's home finding center can help buyers select a home from its more the 20 neighborhoods throughout the valley.

KB Home also has divisions in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and Florida, as well as in France.
