Golf course designer named for NLV facility
Golf course architect Gary Panks has been named designer of an 18-hole golf course to be built within a master-planned community in North Las Vegas being jointly developed by Del Webb Corp. and American Nevada Corp. The championship golf course, which will wind through a planned age-qualified village, will be a municipal course owned by the city of North Las Vegas. Panks' projects are many in the southwestern United States and are also featured in Mexico, Australia and Thailand. The new course is his first 18-hole facility in Las Vegas, where he designed the 18-hole putting course at Angel Park Golf Club. "We are excited to be designing our first full-size course in Las Vegas, and we're dedicated to making it one of the top-rated municipal facilities in the area," Panks said. American Nevada and Del Webb, partners in North Valley Enterprises, bought the 1,900-acre parcel at auction in May 2001. The community is expected to include two villages: one will be age-qualified and the other will not. In addition to the 18-hole golf course, the soon-to-be-named community is also planned to include two shopping centers, two elementary schools, a middle school, fire station and library.
