Aliante set to sizzle

The "Smokin' Barbecue" event celebrates the art of barbecue today at Aliante in North Las Vegas.

Chef Les Kincaid is scheduled to present three, 45-minute cooking demonstrations, and share a few recipes for side dishes to enliven summertime meals.

"Nothing brings on summer like outdoor cooking," Kincaid said. "We're inviting everyone to come to Nature Discovery Park and discover barbecue and grilling techniques, equipment and recipes, plus savor samples from the flames that will make you the most popular home chef in your neighborhood."

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kincaid's sessions start at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be free food, while supplies last, provided by Memphis Championship Barbecue; a radio remote; children's activities; and free Father's Day photos. Visitors also can register to win a pair of tickets to a Van Halen concert, a driving experience at the Mario Andretti Driving School, golf for two at the Aliante Golf Club, or a gas barbecue grill.

Aliante is a development of North Valley Enterprises, an affiliate of American Nevada Co. and Del Webb Corp.

The 1,905-acre community comprises all-ages and age-qualified villages.

Del Webb, D.R. Horton, KB Home, Pardee Homes, Perma-Bilt Homes and Pulte Homes offer homes in the all-ages village. Del Webb is also developing the age-qualified Sun City Aliante.

Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to the $700,000s.

About one-fourth of the community is designated for recreational and public purposes including a municipal golf course, parks, trails and an arroyo. Two elementary schools and a middle school are planned.

Additionally, about 100 acres of development is planned to include shopping venues, as well as a resort with gaming.

To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Proceed to the Aliante Parkway exit then go south. The sales center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
