Cloud Carpets reports rise of alternative product sales

Roy Shelton, owner of Cloud Carpets, said sales of his noncarpet floor-covering products are rising.

Products such as laminates, hardwood and ceramic are increasingly popular, yet carpets remain the best-selling item at the company's four stores.

"Five years ago, carpet represented better than 60 percent of the flooring sales here at Cloud. Now we're running at about 50-50," Shelton said.

The company has operated locally since 1962. The 50,000-square-foot flagship store, located on Industrial Road near Tropicana Avenue, features the Cloud 9 Gallery and recently added hot tubs to its product line.

"We added hot tubs because when new-home buyers come to shop for flooring, it's a natural to get a spa as well," Shelton said.

Cloud Carpets outlets are also located at 800 N. Rainbow Blvd., 334 Water St. in Henderson, and in Mesquite.
