Major parks under construction in Summerlin

Summerlin has four parks under construction and two parks under design, the latest additions to the master-planned community, which has more than 100 total.

Parks are integral to the community's lifestyle, according to Dan Van Epp, president of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the community.

"Healthy outdoor living has long been a Summerlin hallmark," Van Epp said. "That's why just about every neighborhood has its own small park, and every village has one or more larger village parks typically focused on different recreational themes, such as soccer or baseball."

Parks under construction include Summerlin Centre Community Park, which will cover 20 acres near Charleston Boulevard and feature two lighted soccer fields, a soccer practice field, group picnic area, playground and walking trails; and North Tower Park, which will encompass 7 acres in The Vistas village and feature two playgrounds, a picnic area and open play areas.

Promontory Park, a half-acre park in The Ridges, will include a picnic pavilion, playground and open play area.

Also under construction is Ridgebrook Park, a 6-acre patch in Ridgebrook, a mini-village featuring four neighborhoods and an elementary school just east of The Ridges village. This park will be home to a lighted tennis court, basketball court, picnic pavilion, playground and interactive water play area.

Parks under design include The Vistas Community Park, a 23-acre park and South Tower Park.

In an independent inventory of parks conducted last year, Summerlin was home to league-play soccer fields, basketball courts, swimming pools, playgrounds, tennis courts, community centers, ball fields, T-ball fields, horseshoe pits, bocce and shuffleboard courts, and a skateboard and roller hockey area.

"Summerlin parks are as diverse as the community's neighborhoods and residents," Van Epp said. "The goal of the Summerlin park master plan is to meet a variety of recreational needs for residents of all ages and interests, reflected in the different themes and facilities featured throughout the community's parks."

Summerlin has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for nine of the past 10 years, according to an independent survey. It features eight golf courses, nearly 100 miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 100 model homes.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots range from half an acre to three-quarters of an acre and are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents from the high $700s.

To visit the community's home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
