Sun City Anthem's location appeals to buyers

A visit to Del Webb Corp.'s Sun City Anthem age-qualified community nine months ago led to home purchases for Seattle-area residents Arlene and Tom Gillio and their friends, Don and Sandy Alciati.

"We wanted to have more fun in a drier climate," Arlene Gillio said. "We came down to Nevada together, met with the Del Webb sales representatives together, and bought a house together. We even bought the same model."

The Alciatis plan to move in this July.

Tom Gillio, who retired from the Army after serving in Vietnam, Europe and "all over the United States," said the age-qualified community's location was appealing.

"One of our sons lives in San Diego and the other in Taos, N.M. Sun City Anthem is close to McCarran airport which makes travel easier for visiting relatives," he said.

They chose the Cambridge model, which features a den, optional guest suite, great room and an owner bedroom.

An avid golfer, Gillio appreciates the golf cart parking area in the garage.

"We have great view of the mountains from our kitchen. We love having breakfast there and enjoying the scenery ... Meeting people is the greatest part. It's very easy to meet people, everyone is very friendly," she said, adding that she has already joined the community's Quilting Club and enjoys aerobics and yoga at Anthem Center.

Measuring about 75,000 square feet, the community center offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public.

Seventeen model homes are featured, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through its Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000 to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
