Sun City residents join national fitness event

Residents of Sun City Anthem, an age-qualified community within the Anthem master plan in Henderson, competed in a variety of contests during the recent National Senior Health and Fitness Day celebration.

The largest event of its kind, the national observation involved more than 150,000 adults in 1,500 locations across the country.

Activities at Sun City Anthem included basket bocce, horseshoes, basketball and a Strong Person contest. The later competition include a golf cart pull, bench press, biceps curls, shot put and box lift.

"Many residents of Sun City Anthem move here because they know they can maintain a physically active lifestyle," sales manager Jim Bond said.

"Strength and sports competitions such as these showcase the active-adult concept at Sun City Anthem. We provide a variety of fitness programs, such as tennis, swimming, hiking, softball, and more to provide a healthy, fun environment."

Zipi Mimran, one of the Strong Person competitors, and her husband, Al, agree.

"I love the lifestyle here. I play tennis often and use the fitness center every day," she said.

Equipment at the center includes treadmills, recumbent bikes, weights, and crosstrainer and strength-training machines. Class offerings include yoga, tai chi, stretch and relaxation, step and body shaping, and water aerobics.

The Mimrans said they also enjoy the social aspects of the community. Zipi Mimran is a member of the women's club and volunteers at Hinman Elementary School.

Twelve designs ranging from 1,496 to 3,175 square feet are available. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, to Anthem Parkway and turn left, then turn right on Alexandria Drive.

Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
