Sun City Anthem swims with social opportunity

Members of an aquatic exercise class at Sun City Anthem enjoy each other's company so much that they formed the Aquacize Club.

"We wanted to have a club where we could have activities outside the pool as well," John Williams, club president, said. "We've had guest speakers and recently hosted a potluck dinner."

The club has 57 members, all residents of Del Webb Corp.'s age-qualified community in Henderson. The water aerobics classes are held in Anthem Center. In addition to the center's indoor pool, there is a fitness center, computer lab, sewing room, crafts and ceramics work space, library, ballrooms, and other social and recreational opportunities for residents. Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge is also housed in the center and open to the public.

Williams, who is retired, is also active in several other clubs within the community, including its computer, finance, bocce and bridge clubs. He and his wife, Margy, moved to the community about two years ago, after living in about a dozen countries and 36 states while he was an Army chaplain.

"We love the Las Vegas area best because of all the things to see and do here," he said.

Southern Nevada's centralized location to family in Denver and San Diego also influenced their purchase decision.

"It's easy to catch a flight to Las Vegas to visit," Margy Williams said. "Prior to moving to Nevada, we lived in Kansas with a three-hour drive to the nearest airport. So we really like Sun City Anthem's close proximity to a major airport."

The community offers 19 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and priced from the low $140,000s to more than $500,000.

The Williams selected the Colonial model.

"It's roomy with a very open layout and more living space. We appreciate the flexibility of the Colonial for entertaining," Williams said. "Everyone smiles here. Our neighbors are friendly and we always feel safe. The camaraderie is phenomenal."

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, to Anthem Parkway and follow the signs. The sales office and models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
