Father, daughter settle in Solera

With its "flowing" floor plans and myriad activities, Del Webb's age-qualified Solera at Anthem community in Henderson proved to be exactly where Eileen Knox and her father, Sidney Levin, wanted to retire.

"I knew I wanted to buy a brand-new home when I retired, and Solera is perfect for us," said Knox, a former banker who had visited the valley many times on vacation. "My buyers in California wanted a fast escrow, so we decided to rent a home in Solera while waiting for our new home to be completed."

During that time, Knox met her neighbors and became involved with social activities.

"We loved renting at Solera; the people are so nice. I've already joined the walking and hiking group and look forward to playing some golf," she said.

Knox and her father purchased a 1,771-square-foot Franklin plan because the plan just "flowed."

"Upon entry, you can see in all different directions," she said.

The design, priced from the $410,000s, has three bedrooms, two baths, a great room, dining room, kitchen nook, and two-car garage.

Four additional single-story designs are available, ranging from 1,140 to 1,591 square feet and priced from the low $300,000s to the low $410,000s.

Homes in the 385-acre community include two-tone paint, ceramic-tile flooring, ceiling fans, Corian kitchen counter tops, most appliances, upgraded wiring and covered patios.

They also carry the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star label and have features such as low-e windows and blown-in cellulose insulation. In addition, they use the Environments for Living building technology and offer a three-year heating and cooling energy-use and comfort guarantee.

"When we started renting here in March, it was cold outside, yet our home was warm, and now that it's hot outside, our home stays cool. The cost of energy is also low," Knox said.

She also complimented the builder's customer service.

The community is projected to have 1,750 homes. The builder recently introduced Solera South, which is located south of the planned recreation center.

Construction of the 24,000-square-foot center is expected to begin in the fall. It will feature a fitness center, swimming pool, billiard tables, and rooms for clubs, hobbies, computers and crafts. Tennis and bocce courts are open.

Additionally, residents have access to The Revere at Anthem Golf Club, which features two championship courses.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south to Anthem Parkway, turn left and proceed to Somersworth Drive. The sales office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Del Webb is a subsidiary of Pulte Homes Inc., one of the nation's leading builders. It is also developing the age-qualified Sun City Anthem in Henderson and Sun City Aliante in North Las Vegas, as well as the all-ages Club Aliante in North Las Vegas.
