Clubs unite Sun City Anthem residents
The Women's Club is one of many activities available to residents of Sun City Anthem, an age-qualified community under development in Henderson by Del Webb Corp. Club President Brenda Hethcote organized the Women's Club with the aid of Ann Natthei two years ago. "Our membership had a healthy start at 65 members, and has grown to about 155 now," Hethcote said. The group holds monthly luncheons with informative programs. In addition, members volunteer their time and talent to charitable endeavors. "We were the first group here to have a food drive," Hethcote said. They have also conducted two Toys for Tots drives, and frequently assist Hinson Elementary School with PTA activities, fund raisers and school supply drives. Club programs have included fashion shows, entertainment, speakers, even meeting movie star Tony Curtis. Hethcote and her husband, Steve, chose the Jefferson plan, which measures nearly 1,400 square feet. It has a great room, covered patio, golf cart area, and a guest room and owner bedroom on opposite sides of the house. An avid golfer, Steve Hethcote enjoys The Revere, the community's first 18-hole championship golf course. Another course is nearly completed, and a clubhouse opens in September. The Women's Club meets in Anthem Center, a 75,000-square-foot community center. It offers clubs, craft and hobby facilities, recreational activities, a health and fitness center, an elevated walking track, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and Trumpets Restaurant, which is open to the public. There are 17 models available, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway and follow the signs to Anthem. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
