RC Willey breaks ground in Summerlin

Ground has been broken on RC Willey Home Furnishings' Summerlin store, the Salt Lake City-based company's second store in Southern Nevada.

Located in the South Square Marketplace shopping center in the South Square village of the master-planned community, the store will feature a showroom and attached warehouse totaling about 160,000 square feet on about 14 acres.

The store, which will anchor the planned shopping center, is projected to be complete in the first half of 2003. The 400,000-square-foot South Square community shopping center is located in the South Square village center at Town Center Drive, near Interstate 215.

The new store is part of a retail boom in Summerlin, which is projected to increase retail space ten-fold during the next 10 years, according to Dan Van Epp, president of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the community.

"With 60,000-plus residents and six future retail centers under development or design, Summerlin is fulfilling its promise as a fully integrated community. We are working quickly to meet the community's growing demand for high quality and convenient shopping and dining venues," Van Epp said.

Summerlin, which has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community nine of the past 10 years, is unfolding in villages along the western rim of the valley. It is home to eight golf courses, nearly 100 neighborhood and village parks, nearly 100 completed miles of trails, 16 public and private schools, houses of worship, medical facilities, cultural facilities, and business parks.

There are nearly 100 models of houses, townhomes and condominiums, priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $1.5 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s.

To visit the community's home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to the Sahara exit. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
