    PARKS AND TRAILS: Land sale proceeds exceed projections

    While state and federal parks nationwide struggle for adequate funding, Southern Nevada's public lands have tapped into a gold mine: urban Las Vegas real estate.

    In the past three years, $86 million from the sale of federal lands within the Las Vegas Valley -- less than one-quarter of total proceeds collected -- have gone toward new parks and trails throughout Southern Nevada, as well as new facilities on nearby federal lands. And that figure may more than double in the next year.
