Summer debut set for private school in Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands Preparatory School has announced it will open in August. The private, nonsectarian institution will provide programs for preschool through sixth grade with plans for students through high school.

The college preparatory school will be built in three phases, according to Principal Dean Alcott.

"The initial phase will include an 11,000-square-foot building featuring spacious classrooms, a library and media center, a multipurpose lunchroom, administrative offices, an earth science lab and extensive playground spaces," Alcott said.

Phase two plans include the construction of a 30,000-square-foot building for additional classrooms, a gymnasium and a performing arts stage. Phase three plans include a high school campus, a football and soccer field, tennis courts, a track and a baseball diamond.

"Southern Highlands Preparatory School will provide programs to benefit every student," Alcott said. "Our extended-day, summer and after-school programs such as tae kwon do, dance and academic clubs will also contribute to the intellectual and emotional growth of our students."

As part of the accredited Learning Unlimited International Schools, the new school will offer individualized education, multicultural orientation, critical and creative thinking skills, and thematic studies. In addition, the program will include visual and performing arts, foreign languages and athletics.

An informational meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Southern Highlands Golf Club.

Southern Highlands, situated in the foothills of the southwestern valley, is a 2,300-acre master-planned community.

The Estates at Southern Highlands Golf Club offers custom lots priced from the $400,000s to more than $1 million, as well as custom homes starting from $1.5 million. The Villages at Southern Highlands features homes from the $160,000s to the $600,000s.
